A Note from Alumni Association President Cleo Garza
Dear Fellow Alumni,
I am honored and excited to be the newest president of the Alumni Association for the University of the Incarnate Word. It is with much excitement and enthusiasm that I commit myself to leading the association and fellow board members in our never-ending endeavor of making the association the best that it can be! I am honored to serve and build on what we have accomplished these past two years.
First and foremost, I would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to our former president, Donna C. Normandin. Donna played a key role in the rebuilding of our association. Through her dedication and hard work, we have come such a long way in a very short time. Serving side-by-side with Donna over the past two years as president- elect, I have learned so much from her leadership and have been blessed to have her as a mentor. Once again, my thanks and gratitude to Donna for all that she has done for the association.
Since rebuilding the association two years ago, we have accomplished many wonderful things. We want to continue the momentum and build upon what we have started. The Alumni Association will continue to host many activities such as the recent San Antonio mixer at The Lion & Rose, which was a great success. I encourage everyone to visit the Alumni Association Web site at www.uiwalumni.org to keep track of future events. Our goal is to increase membership through these events. Another project that is on the horizon is our involvement with the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and ½ Marathon in November, and we encourage alumni to take this opportunity to participate in the marathon or to volunteer at the event.
Our dream of having a Division II football team has become a reality. On Aug. 29, we will have our first game against Mexico’s national champion, Monterrey Tech, at 7 p.m. This is an awesome opportunity for alumni to come out and show their support.
As my term as president begins, I look forward to working with the Alumni Relations staff. More importantly, I want to challenge everyone to get involved and continue supporting the association.
Sincerely,
Cleo Garza ’06 BBA
