FESTIVAL DE MAYO
It
was a day in the park for the Incarnate Word Community this past
May 5. This year marked the first ever Festival de Mayo celebration
hosted by UIW in the newly acquired Alumni Park located on Hildebrand
across from the university.
The day was filled with live entertainment, music, food and fun
for the whole family as over 1,000 people filled the park. A Kid's
Corner was set up for the children to play games, have their hair
and face painted or bounce in one of the two big moonwalks.
The food selection at the Festival included Chinese, Filipino,
Mexican, and American entrees.
Live entertainment was provided by the Young Artist's Network,
which featured young dancers and singers of all ages. Mariachi groups
from six local schools also performed throughout the day, adding
to the festive Cinco de Mayo holiday observance.
The evening wrapped up with other local performers hitting the
stage to brighten up the day that was unfortunately filled with
scattered storms.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the San Antonio Education
Partnership Endowment at Incarnate Word, the Incarnate Word Endowment
Scholarship Fund, and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
The Festival de Mayo was sponsored in part by the UIW Brainpower
Connection, KTFM/KTSA, FOX San Antonio and San Antonio's WB.
