Teri Lopez, instructor of fashion management, led her fall Promotional Strategies class in the creation of shoe art and branded their concept of a “Global Christmas” on their own fashion shoes. Students were instructed to be inspired by Christmas traditions from countries representing their family background. Twenty-one students submitted projects and spent anywhere from 25 to 50 hours working individually on their shoe art. They invested their own money in the projects and spent from $30 to $125 on supplies. The UIW community judged the project and awarded “Best in Show” to Maria Ayala; “Best Representation of a Global Christmas” to Elizabeth Izarraras; and “Most Outrageous” to Ashley Martinez. The shoes were on display in the Mabee Library until the beginning of the spring semester. A “Global Christmas” coincided with this year’s Light the Way theme of “Christmas Around the World.”
