The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) would like to extend a very warm thank you to Charlie Amato for his 14 years of devoted service to UIW. Amato was appointed to the board in 1999 and served as chairman from 2008 until the end of his term in December 2013. He will remain a member of the board of trustees through 2014. He is also the chairman and co-founder of Southwest Business Corporation (SWBC) and an active member of the community. He has served on the boards of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Cancer Therapy and Research Center, the San Antonio Spurs Foundation, the Carver Academy, the United Way, the Children’s Miracle Network, among others. Amato brought a tremendous level of experience and wisdom to the board with his innovative, relationship building approach. The UIW community wishes him the best as he moves forward in the next phase of his life.
The university welcomes Charles D. Lutz, III as the new chairman of the board of trustees. He was first appointed to the board in 2006. Lutz is currently president of Intercontinental Wealth Advisors, LLC. He previously served as president and CEO of Bank One’s Central and South Texas Region. Lutz has been active in the community of San Antonio and South Texas as president of the board of trustees of the Alamo Heights Independent School District, the YMCA of San Antonio and the Hill Country, and the San Antonio Symphony. He has also served on the boards of Special Olympics Texas, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, the World Affairs Council, and the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health. UIW wishes him great success as chairman of our board of trustees.
